Helix Zhang is a filmmaker from Long Island, New York, whose work interweaves slice-of-life scenes with dream sequences and memories. Created with the support of their QTPOC community, their films depict the ebbs and flows of queer existence and diasporic life.
Their short films as writer/director, TYPHOON DIARY, DOG STORY, and SNAKESKIN have screened internationally, including at Argos Arts (Brussels), Prismatic Ground, Belfast Film Festival, and NOWNESS Asia.
They have produced and edited films that have screened widely at BFI London, NewFest, and New Orleans Film Festival. They served as director’s assistant on the feature film FIRE ISLAND (Fox Searchlight).
Helix co-founded the full service Asian American production company Ozu Was Right with their collaborator Eileen Yoon. Their genre-defying work spanning narrative film, music videos, and commercials have been featured on i-D, and include collaborations with Arc’teryx, Yonex, and On Running.
They are a Buddhist Sagittarius and practice slowness as a way of life.
